During the first semester of my second year at the University of Winchester, we were asked as a year group to design and develop a co-hort website for our year, Digital Media Design / Development 12 (DMD12).
With other work going on and too many people involved in the project, this never really took off, so after a re-think, our head of year decided to give the responsibility of the co-hort site to one designer and one developer, to make the site on behalf of the year.
Paul Breading was asked to design the site and I was asked to develop it and after many ideas being thrown around, we both loved the thought of our logo being the main feature point, with links to all our portfolio sites being buttons around the logo.
To make this function with the animations we wanted, it seemed that the best way to develop the site would be in Flash, so ignoring all iOS devices I took Paul’s designs he mocked up of the planned site and got to work on developing it in Adobe Flash CS5 using ActionScript 3.0.
After finishing the first version of the site I was very happy with the way it looked and functioned, and after a few tweaks along the way since it’s launch in January 2011, what we have now is a great site for users to visit in order to get a pathway to all the portfolio sites for the Designers and Developers in my year at the University of Winchester.
