Word Lens : iPhone App

Earlier on today I may have just seen one of the coolest and most mind blowing apps I’ve ever seen for the iPhone.

Word Lens is a new app available for free download from the app store and it uses the camera in the iPhone to read text and then modify the text instantly.

In the example video below introducing the app, it shows how the translation function can read Spanish text and instantly convert it to English text live on your screen and can also do the same from English to Spanish.

This revolutionary app is sure to make the creators very rich indeed, as although the app is free to download it only comes with 2 settings that are demos of the apps capabilities, Reverse Words which turns the words around and Erase Words which erases the text it finds on the screen. The Spanish to English and English to Spanish translations both cost £2.99 each and considering the amazing demonstration below I can see a lot of very good uses for this app, such as reading menus and road signs in Spain and instantly seeing the english version.

I have to say after my first play it’s not a instant or smooth as the demonstration below but it does analyse the text and occasionally it does reverse the text that it is capturing. Amazing idea and I can definitely see this technology exploding onto other devices very soon.
